Challenges
Teleflex provides a diverse portfolio of medical technologies designed to improve the health and quality of people’s lives. This includes vascular and interventional access, surgical, anesthesia, cardiac care, urology, emergency medicine and respiratory care. Teleflex has operations in 40 countries and more than 12,000 employees worldwide.
As a global company, the demands for business travel and need for collaborative communications are always high. In addition, the Athlone, Ireland office —the global hub for a lot of its internal services —saw an opportunity to adopt video solutions to be more collaborative across its dispersed global workforce. So as part of a wider digital transformation project following a relocation to updated premises, Teleflex searched for collaborative tools which encouraged more interactive and productive ways of helping to slash travel costs and allow staff more flexibility.
As part of an organization-wide investigation into digital transformation, the company looked to address several challenges. These included how to get remote teams to work even more closely together, reduce the travel budget, appeal to a younger talent pool, improve the conferencing experience and make ad hoc meetings even easier to conduct.
Solution
The companywide initiative was led by the CEO, the CIO, SVP Global Operations, HR and IT business function. Each function was integral to the roll out of the 56 collaboration solutions across 30+ sites worldwide. The priority was to find a solution that integrated with the existing Skype for Business infrastructure, and that echoed the company value of putting people in the center of everything they do. The Global IT Team, based in Athlone, worked Digicom and Polycom to find a collaboration technology that fitted seamlessly into the existing infrastructure and would be extremely easy to use. Teleflex was looking to video enable as many rooms as possible, including those of the executive staff.

The preferred solution that met the criteria for the Athlone site included the Polycom® RealPresence Trio™ huddle device, RealPresence Media Align, RealPresence Centro and Group Series Over 60 devices have been installed throughout the organization worldwide — housed in executive offices and smaller huddle style meeting rooms — enabling employees to meet colleagues and partners across the globe at the touch of a button.
Teleflex prides themselves on putting people at the center of everything they do, so the team also installed the Polycom® Centro. The intuitive center of the room video solution, has four screens which allows participants to feel included and part of the companywide all hands meetings held regularly.
“The 360-degree approach to collaborative conferencing is very popular,” Stephen Scannell, Director Global IT Service Support, Teleflex says. “We host training sessions regularly on how to run the technology and everyone is encouraged to keep cameras on while using Skype. Personally, I love the Trio device because it’s plug-and-play, so simple to set up easy to use.”
Benefits

Polycom video solutions are now completely integrated into the Skype for Business enterprise environment at Teleflex. To embrace the new way of working, the Teleflex IT team rolled out a series of training sessions for those new to video collaboration solutions. It is also actively encouraged from the top down that meetings are conducted over video when travel isn’t essential.
While some of the business meetings, whether external or internal, are still conducted in person, Teleflex employees are now empowered to supplement their work schedules with video meetings to conduct impactful business and battle time zone restrictions. One other benefit that the organization has seen is the extension of the Skype for Business experience and smooth integration with the Microsoft environment.
Remote working is now actively encouraged across the network to improve staff work-life balance and productivity.
Digicom worked with Teleflex to design a solution that would fit the new building and that would focus on the end-user and be easy to use. The complete AV solution also included digital signage and a video wall. In addition to the design and installation, Digicom have set up a support team for Teleflex and provide ongoing help and expertise.
