Video Conferencing to save €2.7 billion on travel and hospitality

Video Conferencing / Telepresence will soon snatch $3.5 billion (€2.7 billion) from the travel and hospitality industry each year, according to technology research and advisory firm Gartner. By 2012, the company predicts, 2.1 million airline seats will be replaced by videoconferencing as cash conscious companies and rapidly developing technologies boost the appeal of video meeting solutions. Digicom and 3G in €480k Digital Signage Deal

Business equipment provider Digicom has signed a €480,000 deal to supply digital signs to retail chain 3G.

Under the terms of the agreement, which was finalised last month, Digicom has installed 112 portrait-mounted Sony LCD screens in 283 G stores around the country.

Videoconferencing is coming into view for more and more businesses as prices fall and quality improves.

Recently, 240 employees of the Revenue Commissioners from 11 regional offices attended a seminar on VAT. In the past, this would have involved a mass exodus of staff to a central location such as Dublin, an administrative hassle trying to accommodate the numbers in one room and thousands of man-hours lost as workers made the journey.

Meteor launches mobile e-mail

February 7th 2007 Meteor has launched a fresh attack on rivals Vodafone and O2 with its new Meteor Mobile E-mail service. The service allows business customers to send and receive unlimited messages, spreadsheets, presentations and word documents. It also permits users to download, view and edit attachments, before forwarding them on to a third party. It is compatible with Symbian Series 60 devices, Symbian UIQ, Windows Pocket PC or Smartphone and Palm operating system, and will work with Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and webmail services.
